In Sickness & Health...

Wow. The past two weeks have been CRAZY. Andrew was SO sick, and when he doesn't feel well, the whole house suffers. He had a horrible cough and cold, and was waking up every two hours because he was so congested he couldn't breathe. It was like having a newborn all over again...except not the newborn we had with Andrew. Andrew always slept at least 4-5 hours at a stretch. Anyway, he was pulling at his ears, but everyone kept telling me it was probably just teething. After a few days of it, though, with the cold getting worse, the night wakings STILL going every two hours, and Chris and I walking around in a daze not even knowing what day it was, I finally took him to the ped. Turns out he did have a cold...not much to do except what we were already doing (humidifier, BabyRubm saline nasal spray and aspirator...), but he also has some fluid in his ears. Just a bit, but with all his other symptoms, the ped decided to go ahead and treat him for the slight ear infection instead of waiting 'til it got worse. He's been on antibiotics for a week now and is SO much better.

Me? I'm sick now. Same stuff Andrew had...without the ear pulling, of course. I'm so congested and sick. Yuck. Thank God I have a fabulous husband. I was able to take some nighttime medicine and sleep in this morning while Chris took care of Andrew during the night and when he woke this morning.

Speaking of that, why is Andrew still waking up in the night? He goes right back to sleep...All it takes is giving him back his paci, but sheesh. We want our good sleeper back! Is it because of the new mobility (he is SO close to crawling), the fact that he is now wearing CLOTHES to bed because its way too cool at night to be naked (for the past 4-5 months the kid has only worn clothes when leaving the house), or is he just way too addicted to the paci? Do we need to start weaning him now? I'm thinking maybe its the paci. Any ideas on how to wean him of it at 6 months if we do decide to take away the paci?

I guess that's it for now. I'm still in my PJ's and Andrew is napping. So is Chris. Poor guy was up with Andrew 3-4 times last night while I was totally out of it from the Benadryl...paci issues, of course. I might just go crawl back in bed and get a little more rest before Andrew wakes up again and I take over for the day. :)

i don't think you should take away his paci if he's very attached to it. we took gatito's away around 4 months or so because he wasn't *that* into it and i didn't see a need to get him into it. he switched to his fist and sucked that till it bled, which was awful, and then switched to Cow or Monkey. lucky we have 4 of each and wash them almost daily! anyway, i think babies tend to need to suck for comfort so you might just have to gut it out until he can find his own paci in the night.

I can't offer any help on the paci issue because Ainsley never really took one. (wish she would have, at times!~) But since she has been sick, we have been back to the getting up at 3am thing. She just wants to eat, get a fresh diaper, see us, and then she goes back to sleep. I am hoping it just phases itself out so I don't have to starting letting her CIO for hours in the middle of the night. I don't know if I could do it.
