Stones, Anyone?

Yes, I have stones. Big ones...right there in my gallbladder. Yuck. Oh well...at least we know that there is a definite reason I'm going through such pain. I'm calling the doc on Monday to discuss details, but I do know that I'm going to have to seriously change my diet (wah!) and after Andrew is born I'll have surgery to remove the blasted thing. Still don't know the results from my GTT but the drink was NOT as bad as I'd thought (tasted just like Sunkist to me!)and the nurse who took my blood was so gentle I barely noticed I'd been stuck.

Anyway, I'm off to hang with my parents before they leave, but wanted to update and ask for any advice about this surgery and what I can/can't eat now. Any info or advice is deeply appreciated!!

My mom had her gallbladder out 4-5 years ago. She had it done with a lap (like I did with my septum). It is an easy surgery, believe me. Even though I know you're very uncomfortable now and will be until you get that done, know that once you do get that done it'll be a piece of cake and you'll feel so much better.

Hang in there!

My friend had hers out a few weeks ago and fatty food and fast food are totally out now. Being that bile squirts out when you eat fat then you should try to keep away from it cos you want to rest your gall bladder, not get everything in that region contracting in response to something you've eaten.

I am so sorry you are going to have to deal with this for the rest of your pregnancy. Hopefully Andrew won't make it worse as he grows - fingers crossed he prefers to sit in a way that avoids contact with your poor gall bladder!

In the hospital I was given buscopan to stop muscle contraction in my digestive tract. Maybe that's an option (although my attack happened right before I was able to deliver so the situation wasn't long term)? A friend who is a general surgeon told me though, to keep a very tight eye on white blood cell levels to make sure it doesn't get infected and to get on top of it with kick-ass antibiotics if need be.

Just another part of the fun eh?

Oh, you poor thing. That just sucks. But at least you've got a definite diagnosis. Jill is right...avoid fatty foods and eating too much in one sitting. Eat small meals throughout the day and drink lots of water.

I had my gallbladder out last February, and it wasn't all that bad. The first couple days were painful because when they do a lap, they fill you up with gas. But I was back to myself and feeling SO much better within a week.

Hope you feel better.

Thanks, girls! I really appreciate it! :) I think the hardest thing for me will be the change in diet...not being able to wat all the wonderful things I crave! Oh well...Its all worth it, right? :)
